COOK’S ILLUSTRATED GIVEAWAY!

The week of love commences today!

Every time we watch the movie Julie & Julia, Clark asks me if we can throw a Valentine’s Day dinner party like Paul and Julia Child. My dining creations are certainly no match for Julia’s. (I do make a mean marinara sauce, but what Italian woman doesn’t?) However, to honor my valentine’s request, I am hosting a Valentine’s Day dinner party for a few neighborhood friends Julie & Julia style.

And what would be a Julie & Julia themed dinner party without Julia Child’s Beef Bourguignon? I am going to need all the help in the kitchen that I can get attempting this masterpiece. Go big or go home, right?

In honor of my Valentine’s Day dinner party and this great culinary feat that will be attempted by yours truly, I am happy to announce this week’s giveaway sponsored by the television show, America’s Test Kitchen!

One lucky reader will receive a FREE ONE YEAR SUBSCRIPTION to Cook’s Illustrated Magazine!

It is appropriately called the Food Geek’s Bible and for good reason. It is loaded with recipes, product reviews, taste tests, and even a “How to Cook Library”! I’m salivating over it as we speak!!!

I love Julie & Julia and i love this giveaway!

You know, Ina Garten has a somewhat simpler version of Julia’s Boeuf Bourgiugnon. She uses filet mignon and the whole thing cooks in about an hour. It’s from her Barefoot Contessa cookbook. Here’s the link: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/filet-of-beef-bourguignon-recipe/index.html
She loves Julia’s version but wanted to find away to have the same quality and flavor but in less time.
I’m going to go tweet now!!!

You may be interested in the new book, “As Always, Julia.” I gave it to my sister as a Christmas gift and she said it’s wonderful. It’s a collection of letters between Julia and her good friend Avis DeVoto. In any case, I swear by Cook’s Illustrated recipes – haven’t had a bad meal yet!

Pat Simon, who co-authored Simca’s Cuisine with her, used to do some editing for the journal where I worked (when I was just out of high school, so it’s been a while!).
Last May, I was at a cousin’s in Connecticut, and met a woman who was the stylist for public television when Jacques Pepin and Julia did their television show; she said they were a delight to work with.
